One of the most critical steps in the consulting process is diagnosis. Diagnosis can be done on many subjects (e.g., organizations, teams, processes, structure, individuals, etc.) and in many ways (e.g., surveys, archival data from enterprise systems, interviews, group observation, etc.). While quantitative data is widely used and desired by clients, qualitative data can provide immense value, either supplementing quantitative data or serving as a stand-alone data set in diagnosing organizations, teams, and/or individuals.

In this executive forum, we will discuss the role of qualitative data in the life of the consultant. Here are some questions we’ll discuss in the forum:

What is qualitative data and why is it important to a consultant?

How does qualitative data compare to quantitative data?

How do you improve the quality and richness of qualitative data?

What kinds of qualitative data are available to a consultant?

How do you capture and analyze qualitative data?

How do you convert qualitative data into a narrative?

What are some tips to maximize the effectiveness of qualitative data?
