In this executive forum, we will tackle two topics of importance to organizational consultants.

First, we will discuss how to pursue career opportunities in large consultancies. We’ll hear from a student on how they mapped out their job search process to find employment. We’ll also discuss how large firms operate and what it’s like to work in a large firm.

Second, we will review some of the most commonly used executive assessment tools and how assessment data from the tools are used for executive feedback and development/career planning. Join us for some career planning advice and a deeper dive into how assessments inform executive development and succession.

Here are some questions we’ll discuss in the forum:

  • How did you approach the job search process to find employment in a large consulting firm?
  • What was appealing about the opportunity (vs. a boutique consultancy or a private practice)?
  • What’s it like to work in a large consulting shop? How is the firm organized? What is the structure and operating model?
  • What are your primary responsibilities at the firm?
  • What executive assessment diagnostic tools should be in a consultant’s toolkit?
  • How do you use the assessments? How do they benefit the executive, the executive’s manager, the company, and other stakeholders?
  • What did you learn at UTD that set you up for success, and what advice would you give current students on how to maximize the program?
